It's easy to start a local EAA Chapter! All you need to get started is at least 10 interested sport aviation enthusiasts, either current EAA members or those who are ready to join. For divisional Chapters, you only need five members.
The next step is to obtain an EAA Chapter Starter Kit. Contact the EAA Chapter Office at 920-426-4876, or you can reach them via e-mail at chapters@eaa.org. Either way, the Chapter Office will send you a Chapter Starter Kit ASAP! If you are interested in starting an International Aerobatics Club Chapter, Vintage Aircraft Chapter, Ultralight Chapter, or Warbirds Squadron, please be sure to mention this when you contact the Chapter Office.
A helpful hint when starting a local Chapter is to ask the Chapter Office to request a set of mailing labels for EAA members in your region. (You can request labels by the first three digits of your zip code area). Then use the labels to send out a postcard to EAA members in your area and invite them to attend the first meeting. The labels are available at no charge and you can contact the Chapter office at 920-426-4876 or email for more information.
Local EAA Chapters are Chartered by EAA and are required to adopt Bylaws following guidelines established by EAA. Local Chapters are also required to incorporate in the State or Province where they are based.
Insurance is always an issue when starting a local EAA Chapter. EAA has put together a comprehensive insurance program designed to meet the very special needs of local Chapters. This insurance is required for all Chapters in the United States and Canada. Unfortunately, because of licensing restrictions, this insurance is not available outside these two countries.
