As noted at the Special Congressional User Fee Forum at AirVenture 2007, the fight against imposing user fees against general aviation is fast approaching its conclusion. The Final Countdown has begun!!
“The first user fee is just the first step. This is serious business, and it's extremely important that members get involved and stay involved.” Tom Poberezny, EAA President.
Congress will be returning from their summer vacation on September 7, 2007, and EAA fully expects both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate to begin final debate on the FAA Reauthorization Act. House bill 2881 does not contain general aviation user fees, while the Senate version, bill 1300, does. Which bill will win? That is up to you, your family and friends, and your neighbors. Now is the time to write your Congressional representatives and personally let them know how you feel about user fees and the impact they will have on your flying, your community, and your airport. Write today - your letters must be on your Congressional leaders desk when they return from vacation!
The Campaign to Prevent User Fees, has grown ever stronger since EAA kicked it off at AirVenture 2006. In two user fee specific forums, EAA President Tom Poberezny lead other general aviation association top executives in very frank discussions on the impact user fees will have on the entire general aviation industry – from grassroots (ultralight and light sport) pilots, to small general aviation airports, to your neighborhood A&P mechanic, to the high school kids of tomorrow trying to save for flight lessons – all will suffer.
