EAA Participates In Amateur-Built ARC Meeting

March 8, 2007 — EAA representatives were in Bend, Oregon, last week attending an amateur-built Aviation Rules Committee (ARC) meeting held at Epic Aircraft. Earl Lawrence, vice president of EAA government and regulatory affairs and ARC co-chair, and Joe Gauthier, EAA Homebuilt Aircraft Council member participating as an amateur-built Designated Airworthiness Representative (DAR), took part in the meetings, which focused on policies for certification of amateur-built aircraft.

A major point of discussion was the implementation and use of a updated checklist used by FAA inspectors and DARs to determine eligibility for amateur-built certification.

"The committee is continuing to work on developing processes that will make it clearer and simpler to determine if an aircraft qualifies under the FAA's amateur-built regulations," Lawrence said.

While in Oregon, Gauthier also visited with the staff at Lancair in Redmond and joined Lawrence for a visit to Van's Aircraft in Aurora.
