EAA Hosts Welcome Home For The 1157th Transportation Company
August 31, 2007 — More than 1,000 people were on hand in one of EAA?s exhibit hangars Friday as families and friends welcomed back the Wisconsin National Guard?s 1157th Transportation Company after a 14-month deployment in Iraq.
EAA made the facility available for the event, just as it had opened the EAA AirVenture Museum?s Eagle Hangar for the unit?s farewell program in June 2006.
?We are pleased and honored to have the opportunity to host the 1157th on their return from the Middle East,? EAA president Tom Poberezny said. ?These men and women put their regular lives on hold to serve their country, and it is our pleasure to welcome them back to Wisconsin.?
Among those welcoming the Oshkosh-based unit home were U.S. Rep. Tom Petri (R-WI) and Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton.
