Phase I of OSH Runway Project Completed

November 15, 2007 — The first phase of Wittman Regional Airport's $7.3 million Runway 9/27 reconstruction project was completed this past Monday, November 12, and the runway opened for traffic at 2:35 p.m. CST. Airport officials reported that a transient Cessna 172 was the first aircraft to land on the new pavement. The first departure was a Wittman-based Remos special light-sport aircraft. The runway project began shortly after EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2007 and replaced the western 4,700 feet of pavement. The project is being funded through federal, state, and local funds.

Phase II (eastern portion) will begin in late March 2008 with a June 30 completion date - just in time for EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2008. The entire runway will be marked and grooved during the second phase, during which time the runway will close.
